Okay.  So I’m a little bit bossy. Ha!

I tell people what to do all of the time. And, for the most part, they like it. 

Or should I say, they like the results from it.

I’m this girl.

Get Ahead, Not Behind

The Holidays are here. 

Where did 2017 go!?

Crazy stuff, how quickly time goes when you’re having fun. 

So I’ve become very aware of something. 

People are struggling. 

In many different areas in life, but of course I’m talking about food. 

About weight. 

I’ve been coaching people for two years. 

Over 140 individuals. 

And lately, I’ve had many of them stop in my shop, text me and/or stop me in the church lobby to admit something to me. 

Remember, somewhere along the line, I earned the title “food priest/police”. 

There was a dessert auction last Sunday at my church, to raise funds for missions. 

I was informed yesterday that someone donated a dessert and that they had attached a tag that stated, “This is NOT Shari Walls approved.”

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜³

I still find it mind boggling that I am she. Because this is NOT who I was. 

But I do live and breathe this, as I should since it’s my business …and I’m a teensy bit passionate about changing lives. 

So back to these people that are reaching out to me. 

They’ve gone backwards. 

Opened the door for sugar. 


Which then leads you to lose control over your cravings and eating habits. 


Okay, maybe you’re not eating like that. 

But maybe you are. 


People that have come in to see me, are coming in with their heads hung low. 

I hate that this affects people the way that it does. 

Of course, I give them a pep talk and try to point them back in the right direction. 

But it’s not as easy as just “doing it.”

I’ve been rehired many times recently to get people back on board. 

And I certainly don’t mind. It’s what I do. 

Which brings me to here. 

It’s the week of Thanksgiving. 

I’m working with people 1:1 as well as in a private Facebook group. 

Steering people in the way that they should go. 

Encouraging them. 

Reminding them. 

The month of December can go one of two ways:

People can stay the course. 

Which allows them to feel good about themselves and maintain control. 

Or,

People can completely go off roading. 

Which they then feel guilty and out of control. 

Listen. 

Food can be very controlling. 

We have to create a healthy balance. 

Which takes discipline. 

And most people, left on their own will struggle. 

Which is why I want to offer a new group for the month leading up to Christmas and take us through 12/31. 

Get ahead, not behind. 

Many people will contact SavingKitchens in January. 

They will feel stuffed and miserable and wish that they would’ve started this journey sooner. 

Don’t be them. 

You can navigate through holiday gatherings and the like. 

But it takes strategy and a mindset. 

Both of which I will offer. 

You have to decide.

You have to commit. 

And you have to do the work. 

But come January 1, 2018, you could wake up feeling like this.

Did You Know?

Most people start out on a new diet with great enthusiasm only to find that sometimes it’s too difficult and they end up throwing in the towel. 

Are you that person?

I used to be that person. 

Many people who come to see me have also been that person. 

The difference?

I teach people a way of life, not a diet. 

Diets typically don’t teach you anything. Except to restrict calories, count points or eat small, prepackaged meals. 

In all of the above scenarios, most are not teaching you ANYTHING. 

And more importantly, you don’t realize the stuff that you are eating is actually detrimental to your health. 

So. You may lose weight. 

But you’re also losing your health. 

By way of the food you are eating. 

Food is the single most important influence on our health. 

Those of you that know me, know that I like add humor where possible.

I hear and see this all of the time. 

I teach people a way of life that is truly sustainable. 

It starts with learning what’s in your food and how to create balance. 

There are over 140 people who have met with me and made these changes. 

I have new ones that I meet with each week. 

And the comments range from:

“I thought I ate healthy until you showed me otherwise…”

“I thought that was healthy!”

“I had no idea!”

To

“I’m so excited to start this process and feel better!

And so on and so on. 

Yesterday morning, someone brought it to my attention that a question was asked in a local swap group on Facebook about looking for a nutritionist (which I am not) to help with meal planning and a change in diet. 

I am not in that group, but I was also told that I was mentioned by three different people in that post. 

So the word is getting out. 

But of course I’d like for it to get out a bit more. 

I opened my storefront almost six months ago. I have hundreds of cars drive by daily. 

Most people have zero idea of the hidden gem that is located in this small town of Metamora. 

Truly. 

I offer a wonderful variety of hard to find foods, I love talking with people about their health and how I can help them as well as the educational workshops that have and can happen in that spot.

What’s in Your Cart?

I hear the commercial for a credit card when they ask, “what’s in YOUR wallet!?”

They care about getting their credit card into your wallet. 

I ask you, “what’s in your cart?” As in grocery cart. Of course. 

Because that is what I care about. 

I’ve been at this health coach business for nearly two years. 

I have people all across the board come to me. 

Examples:

Marge, who has zero knowledge about what this lifestyle is about. 

(I’m her girl to show her the way)

Suzy, who has tried every diet out there and has gleaned a bit of info on health here and there, but cannot put the whole picture together.

Dorothy, who believes she eats healthy yet has a series of health issues.

Food. 

It’s the single most important part of better health. 

You are what you eat. 

You’ve heard that. 

It’s TRUE. 

The cells in our body…resemble the food that we eat. 

Which do yours resemble?


Now I realize that you could be somewhere in the middle. 

I like to be a bit exaggerated in my visual presentations. 

My cart doesn’t look like the top one. 

All veggies!?  Nope. 

But certainly no junk foods like the years previous to my own health transformation. 

I coupon shopped. 

I recently posted this in my Facebook group and someone commented that these were the foods that coupons are offered for. 

Exactly!

What About Now

Today is a gift. 


We can think about yesterday and worry about tomorrow, but what about today. 

What about now. 

It’s a gift. 

So, let me ask you this, “What are you doing with this gift called today?”

Almost three years ago, I did not purposely set out to save my own kitchen, per se. 

But it happened. 

Two years ago, I set out to save (maybe) a few kitchens. 

It’s now over 125 kitchens. 

I have consistently worked with about 10-20 people per month and the end result is most often the same. 

Really good. 

Take Annette for example. 

She completed her thirty days just recently and met with me for her followup on Wednesday. 

All. Good. Stuff. 

Before seeing me, she did her very best to eat “healthy.”

She suffers from an autoimmune disease and stumbled upon a Facebook ad, featuring yours truly.

There are no coincidences in my book. 

Anyhow. 

We sat through a consultation and that’s where the eye opening begins. 

After almost two hours of a beautiful conversation together, she left that day armed with knowledge and some material to help get her started. 

She. Was. So. Excited. 

I’m always excited when people come see me and want to go down this path with me. 

I already know what’s up ahead for them. 

Fast forward to Wednesday. 

The words she spoke keep ringing in my ear, “I finally found hope, where after many years of just coping with the pain, I can see things a bit clearer.”

She is not pain free but has seen much improvement. 

And she knows so much more. About food. About how it affects her. And what she really needs to thrive. 

And she is now anxious to meet with Rachel. 

I get asked often about what a FM person does/is. 

This is what Rachel does/is versus conventional med. 


I am truly thrilled to watch the rest unfold for her. Just as I am with each person. 

I look around at people that began with me a year ago and can hardly recognize many of them. 

They are in the best health they have been in years. 

Doug is over 100# down. 

Ronda and her daughter Clarissa are  rocking it (they don’t weigh often but look so completely different from this time last year). They shine brighter and look amazingly healthier. 

Stephanie words were almost identical to Annette. She gets it! 

And so on and so on. 

They’ve done the hard work. 

They’ve stayed the course.

I met with a couple yesterday for a their followup to 60 days with me. 

Another THRILLING testimony. 

Eyes opened. 

Can’t ever look at food and labels the same.

He especially had struggled with his weight off and on for the past several years and had tried many different approaches to losing it, only to regain and become totally frustrated. 

No more. 

He gets it. 

So, as each one comes my way, I often feel like this.

Health Coach Life

Yes, I’m a health coach. 

No, not that kind. 

You know, the kind that sells a MLM product and the person instantly become someone in charge of better health. 

Ahem….leading others astray. 😲

While there may be good MLM products to improve health (I’ve yet to discover one myself), I’m not that coach. 

It’s mostly why I am not thrilled with the title “health coach”. 

But what’s a girl to do. 

It’s what I am…but in the true sense. 

I’ve studied and passed exams. 

Researched. 

Educating myself and others on what is truly healthy. 

Makes a difference.

It Was Grand πŸŽ‰

Once upon a time, a girl named Shari set out on a journey to health. 

Now she saves kitchens. 

And it’s not thee end. 

It’s just the beginning. 

After being open for just two months, I had my grand opening, which included my ribbon cutting. 

Here are some highlights. 



It was truly grand. 

How many people came through?


From my recollection of people combined with door prize slips filled out, that’s what I counted. Could be more. To me, that is pretty incredible. 

Food demos, small teachings and a whole lot of chatting, taste testing and shopping. 

It was more than I dreamt. 

And then this last Sunday, it hit the local newspaper.  


There is a plan and it continues to unfold. 

I’m just being utilized in a way that I’ve been created and now sharpened. 

To help others is truly my vision and passion. 

I’m a blessed girl, in more ways than one. 

Because I’m allowed to do what it is that I do.

I’m settled in!

STK has been in its new, storefront location offficially for a month. 

Wow. What FUN that’s been. 

I’ve got lots to say, so grab another cup of coffee or glass of water or whatever your favorite, unsweetened beverage of choice is. 

Many of my readers aren’t on any social media, so I’ll bring them up to speed on all of The Who and The What.

Over ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE people, kitchens, families, grocery carts, plates….

I can’t even do the math anymore. 

Let’s just say that’s A TON (probably literally) of weight, a whole lot LESS meds and a whole mess of junk food standing still on the grocery store shelves. 


Doug is down ONE HUNDRED POUNDS since last August. 

Ronda is ROCKING it and even though she doesn’t own a scale, it’s completely obvious that she has totally transformed her life, dropping quite a bit of weight and looking healthy at 49! 

Hmmmmm…..that sounds very familiar. 😎

Amazing. 

Testimonies on every level. 

Chris was a recent referral and after her first 30 days, she lost 20 pounds and FOUR notches on visceral fat (I’ve got that fancy scale that reads all sorts…including your metabolic age 😳).

But. 

I have people reaching out on a consistent basis. They have tried it all and want a REAL lifestyle change. 

I’m your girl. 


So, what about this new place?

It’s super cool.

I get up every day and am like, “pinch me.”

I’ve worked for other people since 2001ish. 

And I loved the people and the opportunities. 

But I’ve always had in the back of my mind, “if it was my business, I’d do it like this _______.”

Well, Shari Walls, now you do and now you can. 

I am a member of both local Chamber of Commerces (Lapeer and Metamora — actually, my app for the latter was just submitted). 

I’ve joined a local chapter of a networking group, BNI. 

And my GRAND OPENING is slated for July 11th. 


I’ll have lots of great things in store for that day. 

There will also be a ribbon cutting ceremony. 

I’ll cry.

Most recently, I introduced a new addition to STK. 


Meet Rachel Fitchett, (with a whole LOT of initials after her name). 

She’s my Functional Medicine Specialist that is now on board with me to work with my people that need further assistance after their kitchen is cleaned up.

I have studied it and believe in it 1,000%. 

People, it’s what we are eating and exposing ourselves too that changes EVERYTHING.

Rachel and I are not miracle workers….but we are in the business of seeing them happen. 

Together, we make a great team in this area. 

It takes work. It’s takes a solid plan. It takes guidance. And it takes COMMITMENT.

And I’m SUPER THRILLED with the direction it’s going.

STK, SavingKitchens & SaveTheKitchens

They are all one in the same and most people recognize them as such. 

But let’s break each one down. 

SaveTheKitchens is my legal business name. It’s from this very blog, which I started in August 2015 to educate people. That’s it. 


Who knew!?

STK became short for that πŸ‘†πŸΌ.  I have this bunch of incredibly awesome (mostly) ladies that are proud to say that they are part of the #stkarmy. 


We have so much fun, by the way, at STK Roundup. 

STK is used often, mostly because it’s quick to type out. 


(I do love using that πŸ‘†πŸΌπŸ™Š). 

And then, SavingKitchens. 

It’s what I’ve branded strongly and now use the most. 

It started out as a title for my first cookbook, that I literally threw together, wondering if I’d sell 40 or so copies. 

Over 500 copies to date have landed on kitchen counters all over the place …


SavingKitchens also ended up on my Jeep and some STK apparel last fall. 


And it’s now going on a sign on the front of my new space. 



Look out Metamora, THIS is what’s happening in our town. 

I say all that to say this:

I don’t mean to confuse people, but I’m sure I do.

By the way, I’ll have something super cool on a wall inside that will tell each person as they walk in what I’m about, what I do, am doing and any upcoming events. 

This is soooooo different than what most would expect. 

Because I’m different in many ways and have been from the beginning. 

Someone told me the other day that she believes this new venture will be so successful, especially because I’m actually training people in this lifestyle, not just selling “healthy” food (certainly not questionable food either). 

I. Cannot. Wait. 

I’m placing my orders for goods, many of them are unique and I’m also having custom made shelving, my front counter and an absolutely gorgeous kitchen island to teach and whip up good recipes from. 


Tentatively opening the doors the first weekend in May. 

Recently, having to give out my business name and/or website info to people, a few have mistakenly left of the s at the end of SaveTheKitchens. 

Like this: SaveTheKitchen. 

In correcting them, I point out the fact that I’m not saving A KITCHEN, but MANY KITCHENS, hence the S. 

It’s what I do. 


Oh. One more thing. 

Someone kinda special may make an appearance at my grand opening.

Mixed Signals

The messages out there today, in TVland and the worldwide web, including social media, are all over the place when it comes to “healthy” or “dieting” or “loosing weight” (that’s commonly misspelled ALL the time…I purposely misspelled it) πŸ€”πŸ™„. 

Which way to go?

What’s the correct way?


Go?

Stop?

Go now?


πŸ‘†πŸΌThose are two of the best visuals for what I’m discussing. 

And you know I like visual when I am speaking or blogging.  

I love social media. 

Well. 

Mostly for my business now. 

I’m all over Facebook. 

Personal (I’ve got three grands to show off). 

My STK business page. 

My STK group. 

But as of early this year, you won’t find me spending anytime in my Facebook newsfeed. 

I just can’t. 

It seems weird. 

I became involved too much in every move everyone was making. 

I miss it. Sometimes. 

But it’s best, I’ve now learned, to keep me focused. 

Sooooooo many mixed signals in there…it began to drive me crazy. 

So I apologize that I miss so much. 

I tell my kids, if you want me to see it, tag me. 

I’m mostly spending time on Instagram. 

I browse there often. 

It’s different than Facebook. 

I have better control over what I see. 

I follow strong Christ followers, because I don’t like mixed signals…especially with that one. 

“I love Jesus” one post and then swearing or bashing others all over the place in the next. 

Hey. I’m not perfect, but I have pretty clear discernment. 

Too much nonsense. 

I follow foodie people, because that’s what I enjoy. 

Duh. 

I also follow conservative people, because that lines up with what and how I think. 

I’m completely NOT political in any of my posts. This culture that we live in is wayyyyy too hostile when it comes to that area. 

So anyway. 

Back to food. 

And to the post.

I try hard not to send mixed signals in all areas that I just discussed and I’ve worked very hard at branding who and what I am and stand for. 

SavingKitchens. 

People definitely know who I am and what it is that I do.

Talking to my mom the other day about where I’ve been lately and where I’m headed in STKland, she tells me that in talking with her neighbor about food, I was mentioned. 

Like, in how I’m the food police. 

“Does Shari know that?”

“Don’t tell STK.”

And a few others,

“Don’t let her find out..”

Yesterday, Mr STK and I spent the day with our two oldest sons and their families shopping in Birch Run, which is an outdoor outlet.

We ran into a couple that we all mutually know and when food was brought up, the guy went to explain what he had to eat and then remembered I was standing there, “Well, ummmm….we won’t discuss what I ate..it wasn’t good.”

I just laughed. 

So used to that. 

It’s like I have an STKaura around me at all times.

But if you have followed me for any length of time, you already know this to be true. 

I’ll assume that you read my previous post about going big or staying home. 


But what I’m not excited about is again, all of the mixed signals. 

I sometimes give them off and don’t mean to. 

I have worked hard in the last six months to unbrand myself as just a weight loss coach. 

Because I’m so much more than that. 

Oh, I’ve got people losing (see, that’s the correct usage) weight all over the place. 

Let’s face it. We are a very overweight society. 

Most people need to shed a few pounds and that kickstarts the healthy. 

But I’m extremely interested in what is going on on the inside. 

Inflammation

Digestive

Sugar

And on and on. 

I just posted an article on fatty liver disease a few days ago. 

An alarming trend now. 

Too. Much. Sugar.

So THIS is where I’m different and have been a huge success. 

I teach and lead people to success, the right way. 

Not by some gimmick. 

Not by some prepackaged foods or shakes. 

Certainly not counting stuff.  

You are what you eat. 

Oprah should stop lying to people and say THAT. 

Because THAT is where it’s at. 

(can someone tag Oprah…she still needs her kitchen saved). 

Back to social media. 

People are hyper concentrated on exercising. 

THAT’S GREAT.  

But, WHAT are you eating?

Many get it wrong, wrong, wrong. 

And then, on lovely Instagram..

People are giving and getting mixed signals. 

Some poor girl is -2 and +2 all of the time and now hasn’t posted in over a month. 

She probably gave up. 

Because SHE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. 

This was one of her food finds before she disappeared. Makes me sad. 

And, no surprise here:


Blind leading the blind. 

Do you know how many kitchens that I’ve saved, am saving and will be saving!?

The need is great. 

The harvest is ripe. 

And I’m grateful to do what I do. 

One last thing. 

Another gimmicky thing that is pushed in health circles. 

I posted a few days ago about it. 


My doctor friend, one of many of whose opinion I trust and respect, answered: 

That’s the verdict. 

When people meet me and work with me…they soon find out that I’m simple, yet effective. 

That’s why I’m now getting into my new location. 

Because I’ve got πŸ‘‡πŸΌ


And it won’t cause any confusion. 

I’m not “selling” or “pushing” things just to make a few bucks. 

Nope.
